Your video is awesome. 4 hours ago; it is to?Sign up for our mailing list News Wednesday, March 10th, 2012 Artist Interview: A Fire in the Distance's Lee Ranaldo For their forthcoming album, A Fire in the Distance, punk-rock quartet A Fire in the Distance has assembled a slew of musicians with a variety of musical experiences (Dennis Chambers, Mark Shue, Amy Helm, Robert Pollard), ranging from singer-songwriter/pianist Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth and longtime collaborator of Bruce Springsteen’s to old school punk rock guitar deity Eddie Vedder. In fact, the members of A Fire in the Distance were initially looking for a guitar player for their band and Vedder suggested Ranaldo. He sent a couple of demo tracks to the band and A Fire in the Distance was born. Ranaldo has been a constant in Sonic Youth’s touring lineup for over 20 years and has been a member of the band from the beginning in 1981. He’s also been a member of Yo La Tengo, The Holy Rollers, Rhys Chatham, and Superchunk. “A Fire in the Distance is the most purposeful thing I’ve done in a long time.” He explains. “I’ve been in a comfortable world of four or five years where I don’t feel the need to keep pushing myself, and I think it is important to do that sometimes, because if you don’t, you’ll stagnate.” When asked about the songwriting process for A Fire in the Distance, Ranaldo’s says “It’s very collaborative. I like to have a studio full of musicians, because I feel like it’s the most honest way to make a record. We get a lot of great ideas, and we can say ‘this sounds too good,’ and then we get more musicians in and it sounds better. It’s very organic,
